China's steel rails can be divided into crane rails (crawler rails), heavy rails and light rails in terms of the approximate weight per kilogram of kilograms:

1 The crane rails are divided into four types: QU120, QU100, QU80, QU70. The material is generally manganese steel. The largest single weight is QU120 up to 118 kg/m.

2 heavy rail. According to the type of steel used, it is classified into ordinary manganese-containing steel rails, copper-containing ordinary carbon steel rails, high-silicon copper-containing steel rails, copper rails, manganese rails, and silicon rails. There are mainly 38, 43, 50kg. In addition, there are 45kg rails for a few lines, and 60kg rails have been planned for use on high-traffic and high-speed lines. GB2585-81 specifies the technical conditions for China's 38-50kg/m rails.

In 2007, China promulgated the new standard GB 2585-2007. Except for 38-50kg/m, two new types of heavy rails, 60kg/m and 75kg/m, have been added.

All countries in the world have their own standards for producing rails, and the classification methods are not the same.

Such as: British standard: BS series (having 90A, 80A, 75A, 75R, 60A, etc.)

German standard: DIN series crane rails.

International Railway Union: UIC series.

American Standard: ASCE series.

Japanese standard: JIS series.

3 light rail. There are different track types such as 9, 12, 15, 22, 30kg/m.

The light rails are also divided into national standard (GB) and departmental standard (YB Metallurgical Standard). The above mentioned are several types of GB, YB models are: 8, 18, 24 kg/m, etc.
