Three major engine manufacturers compete for orders
Emirates Airline has faced the decision to sign engine orders after signing 58 orders including Airbus A380-800, A330, A340 and Boeing 777-200/-300 at Dubai Airshow. As negotiations for ordering engines for the additional 15 A380s and 25 Boeing 777s stalled, procurement was postponed until next year. The world's three major engine manufacturers are competing for this engine order. Rolls-Royce and a GE/P&W joint venture company supply the A380 with the "Trent" 900 and GP7200 engine solutions. Rolls-Royce, General Electric, and Pratt & Whitney respectively supplied the Boeing 777 aircraft with the "Trent" 800, GE90, and PW4000 engine options for Emirates Airlines to choose.
