In January 2015, Weichai WP13 was released in Beijing. Today, the WP13 of “Technology, etc.” is like a “customer harvester” and has won numerous customers' dedication and its footprints have spread all over the country. On November 2nd, at the time of the 2016 truck power product upgrade technology seminar held by Weichai, we also invited leaders from Shaanxi Auto, FAW and Dayun to host the launch of the 5,000th WP13.

The arrival of Weichai WP13 has set off a new trend of upgrading China's heavy truck market to large horsepower. Recently, a number of 13-liter 500-550 high-powered heavy trucks were launched by Shaanxi Automobile, Qingqi, Dayun, Beiben and other OEMs. Contrary to the uptrend, a dazzling market was painted for the low-lying market. With the help of WP13, these over 500 horsepower high-end heavy trucks have become China's first landmark products to enter the “500+” platform, leading the new era of 13-liter high-power heavy trucks.

After a period of market trials, Shaanxi Automobile and FAW and other OEMs appreciated WP13: the entire vehicle was matched and optimized, the life of diesel engine B10 exceeded 1.5 million kilometers, the power range covered 480Ps—550Ps, and the engine’s economic speed was extended down to 950 rpm. The maximum torque range is wider, the range of fuel-saving vehicle speed is wider, and the dynamic performance has reached the top level of the international engine with the same displacement; the low fuel consumption is the biggest advantage of its differentiation. The fuel consumption per 100 kilometers is about 3 liters.

Less than one year after its launch, WP13 has achieved full-scale support. From commercial vehicles and engineering machinery to ship power, WP13 is an ideal power option for upgrades in various market segments. Especially in the high-speed standard tractor market, WP13 once again defines new industry standards.

It is reported that the proportion of tractors in the heavy-duty truck industry is 48.50%, while the proportion of road transport logistics (high-speed standard tractors) in tractors is 65.6%. Weichai explained the needs of this segmented market with “five changes”: that is, speeding up of highway freight, saving energy consumption, high efficiency of freight cycle, comfort of vehicle requirements, and clean vehicle emissions. In response to demand, the WP13 adopts the first smart energy-saving system integrated with a rear axle and autonomous ECU with a small speed ratio, and an electronically controlled clutch fan with closed-loop control. It has its own large displacement, low fuel consumption rate and low speed ratio, rear axle, and intelligent fuel economy. The application of the system has redefined the power standards, fuel consumption standards, safety standards, smart standards and reliability standards for the power of heavy commercial vehicles.

Yan He, an engineer of Qingdao FAW Technology R&D Department, took part in the whole process of the WP13 trial with the new FAW Tianqi V model.
