Xanthate is the most commonly used collector for flotation sulfide ore. In order to make full use of its efficacy, the following aspects should be noted when using and storing:

(1) Use as much as possible in alkaline pulp. Because xanthate is easily dissociated in water, hydrolysis and decomposition can occur. Taking sodium xanthate as an example, the reaction formula is as follows:

The dissociation of xanthate is what we hope, because the main effect of xanthate is the anion of xanthate (ROCSS-). However, if uncontrolled, the above reaction proceeds, and the xanthate is further hydrolyzed to xanthogen (ROCSSH), and finally decomposed into alcohol and carbon disulfide and fails. It can be seen from the above reaction that only the slurry remains alkaline, that is, the mass fraction of OH- is increased, so that the hydrolysis reaction can proceed to the left, maintaining a higher mass fraction of xanthate anion and improving the harvesting effect. Therefore, xanthate should generally be used in alkaline pulp (pH > 7).

If some conditions need to be used in acidic pulp, high-grade xanthate should be used because advanced xanthate decomposes more slowly in acidic pulp than lower-grade xanthate. Then add as many medicines as possible.

(2) The yellow drug solution should be used with the device. Do not mix too much at one time, and do not use hot water. In the production site, xanthate is generally formulated into a 1% aqueous solution. Because xanthate is easy to hydrolyze and decompose, it is not necessary to allocate too much at one time. Can not be used with hot water, because the yellow medicine will decompose faster when it is hot.

(3) In order to prevent the decomposition of xanthate, it should be stored tightly during storage to prevent contact with moist air and water. Store in a dry, cool and well ventilated place. Do not get hot, pay attention to fire.
